IN order to strengthen the border security of the Philippines against external threats, the Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC) and Golden Medjay Defense Incorporated (GMDI) signed a letter of interest, aimed to create an image quality performance evaluation and maintenance scanners if all of the country’s airports to prevent smuggling and terrorists.

GMDI Director Vicrod Brozas said that since criminals are going high tech with sending contrabands, the government should always be a step ahead.

Brozas said that by using an AI imaging evaluation software, it can determine if the border security scanners are up to date and can detect all types of explosives and other threats.

“This deterioration and penetration must be assessed in order to bring back that efficiency of checking to all cargoes, passengers everything and this technology that we have will be able to assess your machine whether it's in the airport customs and anywhere or seaports if that machine itself is performing to its specification,” he said.

He added that terrorists are keeping up with the times, so government should also do so.

PADC acting President and CEO Raymond Mitra for his part admitted that the Philippines is faced with challenges in keeping itself from threats and security.

Smuggling, terrorism and other illegal things are illegally entering the country, and such technology will be a big help to them.

He added that the Marcos government is one in keeping safety of the public.

"Well napakalaking tulong kasi of the fact na talagang yung accuaracy nong ah scanners ay talagang ma implement natin so in such a way ma protektahan hindi lamang ang ating airport users local citizens including the tourist or yung tourism industy,” he added.

Both the PADC and GMDI said that once the technology is in place, it can bring security and peace of mind to the tourists.

A secure airport is a gateway to more inventors for the country.

It can generate jobs as well for Filipinos.

The Marcos Government is not expected to dole out any funds for the project since it will be under Public Private Partnership (PPP).

For now, the GMDI said that both parties are creating a Technical Working Group to finalize the project.

"We visualize that our strategy and our direction would be inline with future government infra to achieve first class airports and mega ports throughout the country using our AI technology," Brozas said.
