BSP sees lower May inflation

From 0.9% to 1.7%

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is projecting May 2025 inflation to settle within the 0.9 percent to 1.7 percent range.

If the lower end of the projection is realized, the inflation rate will be the lowest since the 0.6 percent recorded in October 2019.

"Easing prices of rice and fish due to favorable domestic supply conditions in conjunction with lower oil prices, electricity rates, and the peso appreciation contributed to the downward price pressures for the month," the BSP said.

However, the central bank said these could be offset in part by higher prices of vegetables and meat items.

"Going forward, the Monetary Board will continue to take a measured approach in adjusting the monetary policy stance in line with its price stability objectives conducive to balanced and sustainable growth of the economy and employment," it added.

Inflation fell to 1.4 percent in April this year, the lowest since November 2019.

May 2025 inflation data will be released by the Philippine Statistics Authority on June 5.
