BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Education in Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR) is seeking volunteers for the annual "Brigada Eskwela" (School Brigade) on June 9 to 13.

Cooperation and generosity from different sectors will help prepare the schools for the opening of classes, eventually benefitting learners, according to DepEd-CAR Director Dr. Estela Cariño.

“We invite the public, our partners, please join us again for the Brigada Eskwela,” Cariño said in interview Friday.

“This helps the status of education in our region because our learners do not need to spend their school time to fix their classroom, the surroundings and look for desks to use because these issues are already resolved during the Brigada,” she added.

Cariño also asked the Philippine National Police, a consistent Brigada partner in the past, to still be part of the activity.

“Although we know that this was taken out as part of the activities of the police for them to focus on peace and order, we are still hopeful that they can be with us for the opening of classes through the Brigada,” she said.

During the Brigada Eskwela, volunteers from different sectors of the community do not just provide materials needed for the repair, basic rehabilitation and improvement of the schools and fixing of the desks, but also do the actual repair, cleaning and repainting.
