DIGITAL wallet provider Gcash and the Social Welfare Department tied up to enhance the delivery of social protection services across the Philippines.
The unified effort now merges telecom, mobile technology, and fintech services with social welfare initiatives, in a bid to further uplift the less fortunate and ensure timely and efficient public services.
In a statement, Globe said that the parties aim to maximize the impact of their initiatives, ensuring that the advantages of digital connectivity and innovative solutions reach and benefit those in most need.
"Globe’s technology solutions will allow scale, transparency and convenience in providing social services to those who need them most. This partnership is crucial in ensuring that through technology advancements, government services can be delivered in a more efficient manner, fostering active citizenship to assist marginalized sectors supported by the DSWD,” Ernest Cu, President and CEO of the Globe said.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian for his part emphasized that the partnership with the leading private-owned telecommunications company aims to take advantage of technology in advancing various humanitarian initiatives.
“The beauty about the Walang Gutom program is that there is a second avenue to expand that road. The pilot is coming to an end this month and we are now going to scale it up. The first 300,000 beneficiaries will be signed up and hopefully, next year, another 300,000 until we reach one million,” he said.
