ILOILO CITY – A taxi fleet will soon roll out the region’s first electric taxis, signaling a major step toward modern and sustainable transportation.

Land Transportation Office Western Visayas (LTO VI) Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu confirmed Friday that they have already received Quarry Taxi’s application for hire of two electric vehicle (EV) units.

“We welcome this development in line with our modernization program and in promoting environment-friendly transportation in Region 6. Hopefully, by next week, we can already release the documents,” he said in an interview on Friday.

The initiative not only supports sustainable practices but also gives everyday commuters the chance to experience EV rides, which remain a novelty for many.

Conlu added LTO VI under lawyer Gaudioso Geduspan fully supports the initiative of the transportation sector to give comfort and environment-friendly transportation in the city.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Western Visayas (LTFRB VI) on Thursday said the "release of the first-ever electric taxis is a major milestone in green mobility, aligning with the direction of the national government towards a sustainable and modernized public transportation."

The two units are currently undergoing the permitting process with the LTFRB.

“This initiative positions Quarry Taxi as the first operator in Region 6 to introduce EVs for taxi services. The company initially plans to deploy five electric units, with three more expected to arrive in the coming months,” the statement added.
