Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) on Wednesday bannered another milestone of its subsidiary in Singapore, PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP), which completed and commissioned this month a 100-megawatt (MW) Fast Start ancillary services facility in Jurong Island, Singapore.
The power generation arm of Meralco said this development boosts "PLP’s ability to provide reliable and responsive power to the Singaporean grid.”
It said the facility will allow the electricity power generator to provide rapid-response generation capacity and deliver critical grid support during unplanned outages or system disturbances.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to investing in high-efficiency, future-ready technologies that address both reliability and sustainability challenges. Through PLP, we are proud to contribute to Singapore’s energy security while expanding our regional footprint with innovation at the core,” MGEN president and chief executive officer Emmanuel Rubio said.
PLP has been operating since 2014. Prior to the operation of the new facility, it has an 830-MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant.
In addition to the new facility, MGEN said PLP is also set to build a 670-MW hydrogen-ready CCGT power plant on Jurong Island. The power plan is targeted to be operational by January 2029.
