CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental has relaunched its tourism campaign to strengthen its position as a key destination in northern Mindanao, aiming to generate employment and support local communities.

Misamis Oriental Gov. Juliette T. Uy opened the 2025 Tourism Week celebration on Sept. 15, with a series of events scheduled at the Provincial Capitol Grounds and Centrio Ayala Mall in this city. “We create unforgettable stories, happy memories, and opportunities that uplift every Misamisnon,” Uy said.

She also emphasized the value of cooperation between the government, private sector, and local communities in promoting tourism and supporting residents.

The week-long observance features events highlighting local culture, heritage, and tourist destinations, while underscoring tourism’s role in employment and economic activity.

“Tourism is a collective effort, and in Misamis Oriental, every journey is truly unforgettable,” Uy added.

Provincial Tourism Officer Cinderella Faye Obeñita cited a Department of Tourism report, noting that the sector accounts for 13.82 percent of national employment.

“In 2024 alone, 6.75 million Filipinos found direct livelihood through tourism, and here in Misamis Oriental, we see its impact daily, from airport porters, security guards, to our habal-habal drivers, to our hotel receptionists, souvenir vendors, and sari-sari store owners,” Obeñita said.

She added that tourism supports various sectors and contributes to inclusive growth.

“Tourism creates a ripple effect of opportunities, ensuring that even the least and the last can benefit from its promise,” she said.

This year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” aligns with national efforts to promote tourism as a tool for resilience, inclusivity, and community development.

Among the scheduled activities for the week are Kinaham: A Food Expo, Pasundayag: Cultural Dance Contest, a dive photography exhibit, a vlogging competition, and a media familiarization tour along Route 955, covering the areas of Villanueva, Claveria, and Gingoog City.

Obeñita said the tour promotes sustainable tourism and allows participants to document and share local attractions.

The province also launched its new tourism branding campaign, UniquelY MisOr,” which highlights locations such as coral reefs, white-sand beaches, waterfalls, ridges, and mountains.

Municipal Tourism Officer Khryz Kayte B. Dela Victoria of Balingoan expressed support for the initiative.

“May this celebration strengthen partnerships, encourage responsible travel, and deepen the pride of our people in sharing the stories and experiences that make our province truly remarkable,” she said.

She added that the campaign seeks to raise awareness of the province’s natural sites, heritage, and hospitality.
