PAGCOR backs strict rules vs online gaming

Bill filed in Congress for that purpose

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is open to the proposal to impose stricter regulations against online gambling.

"It is the prerogative of our lawmakers to propose laws which they think will be beneficial to the public," PAGCOR said in a statement following the filing of a Senate bill seeking tighter rules against online gambling.

The bill, filed by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, also pushes for the ban on the use of e-wallets for online gambling.

PAGCOR assured the public that, together with like-minded agencies and organizations, it remains "fully committed" to intensifying its efforts against the proliferation of illegal online gaming activities.

In a press briefing last month, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has already removed 7,000 unauthorized online gaming sites identified by PAGCOR.

Castro said the government would not tolerate the prevalence of unlicensed Internet gaming platforms, urging the public not to promote illegal websites.
