Customers of PLDT Global Corporation may now access services of Japan’s major internet exchange (IX) provider, BBIX Inc., after the companies decided to partner to provide transformative remote peering services.

PLDT Global, the international arm of publicly-listed PLDT Group, in a press release on Wednesday, said the tie-up will allow its customers “to access BBIX’s services without the need for physical presence in key markets globally.”

“The partnership aims to deliver greater flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency to enterprises seeking to expand in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond,” it said.

PLDT Global President and chief executive officer Albert Villa-Real, in a statement, said the tie-up “marks another milestone in our commitment to strengthen the Philippines’ role as a digital hub in Asia.”

“By leveraging BBIX’s carrier-neutral Internet Exchange, we are enabling businesses to connect faster, more reliably, and more securely to the global digital economy,” he said.

“This partnership underscores the PLDT Group’s continued investment in world-class digital infrastructure and our vision to make the Philippines not only a leader in connectivity at home, but also a vital gateway for global digital traffic across Asia and beyond,” PLDT and Smart first vice president and head of network strategy, Roderick Santiago said.

In turn, BBIX president and CEO Hideyuki Sasaki expressed confidence that “PLDT’s powerful network infrastructure and PLDT Global’s international presence will bring immense value to our IX platform.”

“All together, we will meet the rising demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity and help enterprises thrive in the rapidly evolving digital economy,” he added.
