THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said that at present, the tech startups in Metro Manila are now valued at $3.5 billion.
According to the DTI they would like for the tech industry to grow further to $10 billion in 5 years by expanding outside Manila.
Likewise the DTI said that the sector is looking for the government to amend laws with regards to the procurement process in order for the startups to take part in the bidding process for products and services.
This was noted by no less than Trade Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba, who said that it made it difficult for startups to participate in government procurement.
This is because there are many requirements which smaller companies cannot fulfill easily.
"Government should be the first one to procure these products and this is actually being done in other countries," Aldaba said.
