THE Pasay City government revealed that the Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development has been given the green light to resume operations by no less than President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
In a statement, the Pasay City LGU, expressed their “sincerest gratitude” to President Marcos Jr. for giving exemption to the Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development from the suspension imposed on reclamation projects in the country.
“We also thank the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) for determining the project’s compliance with its Environment Compliance Certificate (ECC) and the terms and conditions of its Area Clearance (AC) following a thorough scrutiny,” the Pasay City LGU said in the statement.
They also said that the project was also deemed compliant with other issuances, such as PRA parameters pursuant to Executive Order No. 74 Series of 2023 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, PRA Administrative Order (AO) No. 2019-4, including its Transitory provision under Section 14 thereof, and the Memoranda of Agreement between PRA and Pasay City.
“This is a most welcome development as the lifting will pave way for the resumption of development activities with the end-goal of helping further boost the economy and providing needed revenue to the government,” they said.
“We renew our commitment in ensuring that rules and regulations governing the project are always followed to the letter as we have always done from the outset,” they added.
No exact date was given for their resumption.
President Marcos, Jr. in August suspended all reclamation projects in Manila Bay, except for one, as the government reassesses their overall long-term impact on the environment.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has not given a timeline for the completion of the review of the reclamation projects
But the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry President George T. Barcelon said the government’s move to halt reclamation projects in Manila Bay creates “unnecessary uncertainty” for investors.
He added that the suspension of the reclamation projects in Manila Bay may discourage the entry of more investments in the country.
