Government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) Philippine Pharma Procurement, Inc. (PPPI) and Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) are eyeing for investors for their joint project, a pharmaceutical logistics and distribution center, in Clark Freeport Zone.
PPPI President Maria Bianca Kim Lokin said that development of the pharmaceutical hub will require an initial investment of around P2 billion.
“PPPI Pharma Hub will need an initial investment of about $35.25 million (P2 billion) for development. Total area being earmarked is 15 hectares, with an initial development for five to 10 hectares,” she said. “We will also explore investment options, joint ventures and public private partnerships.”
On Monday, PPPI and CIAC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a pharmaceutical logisitics hub within the Clark Aviation Capital.
Under the MOU, CIAC will be providing the viable land for the project while PPPI will identify operational requirements, including warehousing, cold chain requirements, and air freight handling capabilities needed for the proposed logistics and distribution hub.
CIAC President Jojit Alcazar, in statement Monday, said that since “Clark hosts global cargo leaders FedEX, UPS, and DHL” the team-up with the country’s sole government-run pharmaceutical company “further positions CIAC to be the premier global civil aviation logistics hub of the Philippines.”
He said the project aligns with the Marcos administration’s eight-point agenda on providing Filipinos affordable and accessible healthcare for all.
