THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued a reminder for all companies to register under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program.

The DENR said that this is in compliance with Republic Act 11898, or the EPR Act of 2022.

Under the law, it asks that the covered firms, which are called Obliged Enterprises, to register their respective EPR programs with the DENR-led National Solid Waste Management Commission.

The said obliged enterprises are defined as companies with total assets exceeding ₱100 million.

The DENR  said that they can opt to have their own programs, work as a Collective, or be part of a Producer Responsibility Organization.

In their statement, the company said that as of September 2023, a total of 709 enterprises have seen to be taking a critical step when submitting their EPR plans.

The said plans are designed to effectively manage plastic waste by eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging of products, developing more environmentally-friendly and recyclable packaging, and recovering waste plastic packaging.

The data is based from the Department of Trade and Industry.

Presently, there are 4,000 large enterprises in the Philippines.
