DICT wins at WSIS; Keeps winning streak

THE DICT Regional Office 4B – MiMaRoPa and DICT Regional Office 10 were again chosen as Champions on the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2024.

Out of the 1049 submitted projects, DICT MIMAROPA's eLGU-IBPLS: Streamlining the Process of Business Permits and Licenses for Business Owners in the MiMaRoPa Region was hailed as one of the five champions under Category 7 – E-Government, while DICT Regional Office 10’s Regional Disaster Network Project has been recognized as one of the five champions under Category 2 – Information and Communication Infrastructure.

Since 2020, the DICT has received an award from the prestigious WSIS Prizes. DICT Regional Office IX/ DICT Mindanao Cluster 1's Digital Hub Project, Enabling Educators in Remote Teaching and Learning Training Program, and Free Wi-Fi for All in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas in Western Mindanao were recognized as champion projects for 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively. 

Meanwhile, in 2023, the Cybersecurity Education in the Philippines in the Face of New Normal Adversities of DICT Regional Office IX was declared as one of the 18 winners  while the Digital Governance Awards of the ICT Industry Development Bureau and the Empowering Lives in Prison through Information and Communications Technology Project of DICT Regional Offices IV-A and IV-B were feted as champion projects. 

The WSIS Prizes 2024 Champions Ceremony is set to take place at the International Telecommunication Union Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on May 28, 2024. This grand occasion will not only honor the 90 champion projects but will also unveil the winner for each of the 18 categories of the WSIS Prizes. 

“These victories are a testament not only to the innovation of our projects but also a global recognition of the dedication and commitment of the men and women of the Department who are bringing world-class initiatives to Filipinos across the country,” the DICT said.
