BERONG Nickel Corp. (BNC), a subsidiary of DMCI Mining Corp., said that they hiked the budget in order to rehabilitate the depleted nickel mine.

The firm said that they are confident that they will be able to complete the process within the next four years.

The DMCI Mining Corp. through its president Tulsi Das Reyes, noted that the company is ahead of the schedule in terms of the six-year rehabilitation plan.

The said rehab started during the second quarter of the year.

“What we’re doing now is we are still planting and then we have to, we’re continuing benching for the soil stabilization,” he said.

In a statement, it said that the Berong mine —  which is one of the two operating nickel mining assets of DMCI Mining — started in June last year.

They are expected to complete it within the next four years.

It operated in October 2006, and was fully depleted by December 2021.

“If we have to eat up the last four years, we’ll eat up the last four years. If we can turn it over, we’ll turn it over,” Reyes said.
