ILOILO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Friday the completion of two projects worth close to PHP100 million in Capiz, both undertaken by the Capiz First District Engineering Office. District Engineer Cecil Lawrence Cruz, in a report to DPWH Regional Director Sanny Boy Oropel, identified the projects as the provincial cultural and sports center at Villareal Stadium in Roxas City worth PHP85 million and the farm-to-mill road (FMR) in Panitan town, amounting to PHP12.7 million. The cultural and sports center was designed as a premier venue for sports competitions, cultural performances and community gatherings. It has a spacious multi-purpose hall and an indoor sports arena with ample seating capacity to accommodate large audiences, positioning it as a focal point for major regional events. “This landmark facility embodies our dedication to enhancing public spaces that empower local artists and athletes. We believe it will play a vital role in shaping the future of Capiz by promoting active lifestyles and preserving the province’s rich cultural heritage,” Oropel said in a statement on Friday. On the other hand, the FMR connecting Barangay Balatucan and Barangay Timpas consists of a 556.5-lineal meter concrete road and 152.88-meter stone masonry. "With the completion of this road, we ensure that our local farmers can efficiently transport their produce without the delays and high costs associated with poor road conditions," Oropel said. Before the project, farmers and residents had to endure the narrow dirt-and-gravel roads, which often became impassable during the rainy season. "This improvement strengthens agricultural productivity and provides more convenient access to essential services and trade within the municipality," Oropel said. DPWH PHOTO
