Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGEN) has installed 778 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic (PV) panels at its Nueva Ecija project, exceeding the 750 MW target eight months after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led its groundbreaking in November 2024.

In a press release on Tuesday, MGEN said its affiliate, Terra Solar Philippines Inc., currently has the biggest PV installation in the country.

“MTerra Solar stands as a clear example of how we can shape the country’s energy future through strong partnerships and a shared vision. With 778 MW of solar PV capacity now installed, we are making real progress toward delivering cleaner and more sustainable power for Filipinos,” MTerra Solar and MGEN Renewable Energy president and CEO Dennis Jordan said.

“This milestone reflects the hard work of our teams on the ground, the support of our government partners, and the trust of the communities we serve.”

The project, seen to provide 3,500 MW peak (MWp) of solar PV capacity to about 2.4 million households, will help achieve the government’s goal to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to about 30 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.

By the end of June, the project’s Phase 1 was about 54 percent complete after the construction and development of the integrated PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) plant.

The 500-kiloVolt (kV) transmission line that will connect the project to the Nagsaag-San Jose Transmission Line is also in place.

The project will not only serve as a power source but also provide job opportunities, with an estimated 9,500 workers employed during its peak construction, MGEN said.

It is located in a 3,500-hectare area in the municipalities of Gapan, Peñaranda, General Tinio, and San Leonardo in Nueva Ecija, and San Miguel in Bulacan.
