MANILA Electric Company (MERALCO) has given hints of a possible increase in the overall rates this coming month. According to Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriga, this is due to the increase in the prices of electricity at the spot market. The spot market is the utility source part of its supply. Zaldarriaga also said that there had been a repricing of Malampaya natural gas. This resulted to the prices being higher than they were from the previous quarter. However, Zaldarriaga said that not all of the all cost inputs are already on hand. This is why they have yet to announce to the final rate changes by late next week. Earlier, Meralco has invited power generators to participate in the competitive selection process for 1,800 megawatts (MW) worth of supply. Meanwhile, a price rollback is expected for all fuel products next week. According to the four trading days, diesel and kerosene are still down by more than P1/liter, while gasoline prices have so far dropped by less than P1/liter. Diesel - P1.23/L (decrease) Gasolina - P0.62/L (decrease) Kerosene - P1.04/L (decrease)
