THE Department of Trade and Industry said they are targeting to give more discounts for senior citizens.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez earlier announced that senior citizens can get a better and higher discount on basic and prime commodities.
According to Romualdez P65 per week limit, senior citizens will be entitled to a P125 discount on basic goods including agricultural products and cooking gas.
He said that under the law, senior citizens are entitled to a 5 percent discount with regards to basic goods in supermarkets but it is capped to P65 per week.
According to DTI Asec Amanda Nograles, there will be a public consultation to which will be done by mid-March.
There will be proposals that will be discussed such as doing away with the booklet and replacing it with a QR code.
Also, the scope of products included in the discount list.
Nograles also said that the DTI will also invite the Bureau of Internal Revenue to discuss the issue of a tax deduction for supermarket owners if the discount will be shouldered by businesses.
